The theme for the 2018 poetry competition was a big one, "Truth". We received a wide range of responses to this theme, and the Judge chose from that wide range, with many differing versions of Truth in his poems to hunt for winners through.

Pulling Strings by Cathy Hinder
His circular conversations, a word salad ensemble,a deliberately designed instrument of concussion toan abused, bruised mind, as it slowly implodes, diminishing the ability to focus, or foster self-worth.
Manipulated and controlled, independent thinking insidiously erased bycovertly pulling strings, spinning an alternate distorted version of reality.

The annual poetry brings out wonderful poetry, competing to be the best of the best, all around Australia.
And my, was the best certainly the best. If you read the Judge's Report, you can see that Jude Aquilina was definitely of the opinion that Carolyn Cordonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16928724006245769572noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4441272000221745733.post-33722204969206206862016-11-21T20:30:00.004-08:002017-12-20T16:39:03.769-08:00Carolyn Cordonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16928724006245769572noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4441272000221745733.post-74499500700491680042016-09-05T04:07:00.001-07:002016-09-05T04:07:50.606-07:00My New Poetry CollectionToday the postie brought me some lovely mail. One of the pieces was an event invitation, the other was a book. The event isn't relevant to poetry at all, but the book sure is. The book was my first copy of my newest book - a poetry collection, published by Ginninderra Press, a fine South Australian publisher, which many of my b=clever writer friends have been published by.
I've wanted to become Carolyn Cordonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16928724006245769572noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4441272000221745733.post-21310251365284823682016-08-30T02:41:00.001-07:002016-08-30T03:33:54.309-07:00Playing games with HaikuToday I was thinking about a new form of Haiku. Or it may not actually be a 'new'; form at all, I don't know. I'm prepared to hear what others think about my ideas concerning Haiku in Australia. I will call this form AussieKu or perhaps Ausku.
This form is about the idea of writing haiku which are Australian. Australia is a great big country, and many of the things about Australia are unique to Carolyn Cordonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16928724006245769572noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4441272000221745733.post-12129676392237710282016-06-21T01:18:00.000-07:002016-06-21T01:18:02.370-07:00Poetry is Many ThingsHi, I've been thinking about poetry, and enjoying the way my thoughts have been going. Poetry is indeed many things, and I wrote the following on a friend's Facebook page recently, in response to " Writers Write""Poe-try"
By posting that, what was I trying to put across? My initial thoughts were just to play with the word/words. That's certainly one of the ways at looking at it. But poetry is Carolyn Cordonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16928724006245769572noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4441272000221745733.post-83489193437536249712016-05-28T02:32:00.001-07:002016-05-28T02:32:28.561-07:00Adelaide Plains Poets "Transitions" Poetry Competition 2016 Judge's Report Judge: SB Wright

I then went of to have a go at writing my own terzanelle poem, but Carolyn Cordonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16928724006245769572noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4441272000221745733.post-60876277340986186562016-02-22T01:24:00.000-08:002016-02-22T01:24:09.712-08:00The Poetry Competition - Transitions themeThe competition for 2015/16 is closed to entries now, but that certainly doesn't mean poetry isn't happening where I a! The judge of the competition has the entries now, and is busily reading the entries, and picking his lists of winners. We had a grand entry of exceptionally great poems, and I don't envy the judge Sean Wright his task - so many good poems, which is the best?

My excitement is shaded a little by sadness, but more about that later. Why has poetry been happening more? I'll tell you all about it.
I've involved in a group - Adelaide Plains Poets. I'm the President of this group, and have been since the group began, back in 2004. The stated role of the group, Carolyn Cordonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16928724006245769572noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4441272000221745733.post-63651903423671524552015-10-16T18:34:00.000-07:002015-10-16T18:34:10.361-07:00Whether the Weather be Good ...Surely the poet with access to the outdoors will never be lacking in topics to write about. Personally, I certainly find much poetic inspiration in what Nature gives, from the soft and fluffy clouds making fantastical shapes in the sky, to the angry lashing rains and storms that excite and revitalise the venturesome spirit! Lightning strikes, and the mind springs to life.
